Service Learning
WHAT IS SERVICE-LEARNING?
In service-learning, students learn through engaged service-based community activities. Service-learning combines service to the community with classroom curriculum that supports students in “learning by doing.” It emphasizes both the service and academic learning goals in such a way that both are enriched in the process.
The goal of service-learning is to help students become responsible citizens while learning their academic curriculum. Students can make a significant impact within their communities by participating in the service-learning program.
Through the integration of quality service-learning practices, teachers can help students realize the importance of being active and engaged citizens. It is the successful partnership between students, organizations, and their communities that makes service-learning so meaningful and effective.
